Giveaway: Poignant Novel-in-Verse About the Armenian Genocide
Celebrate National Poetry Month and honor the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in April with Dana Walrath’s stirring novel-in-verse, Like Water On Stone (Delacorte, 2014). This haunting novel tells the story of 14-year-old twins Shahen and Sosi who flee into the mountains when Ottoman pashas implement their plans to eliminate all Armenians. YALSA Summer Teen Intern Grant Winners Announced
The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) has chosen 20 libraries to receive its 2015 Summer Teen Intern grant. Awards were made in 13 states to libraries large and small.
The grant will allow libraries to hire teen interns to assist in the implementation of their summer reading/learning programs, while also helping teens gain real world work experience and develop professional skills. Each grant is worth $1,000. The awards are possible through the generous sponsorship from The Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has provided Youth Literacy Grants to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations in hopes to provide assistance in implementing and expanding literacy programs for youth.
